Venue Draping: How to Transform a Room for Your Wedding or Event

Some rooms need a little help. Plain walls, dated features or a big empty hall can all be transformed with draping, and it’s one of the simplest ways to make a venue feel luxurious. Here’s where draping makes the biggest difference and how to make it look its best.

In a nutshell

  • Draping hides plain walls and features and softens a room instantly.
  • Behind the top table and around a stage are the most effective spots.
  • Uplighting on draping multiplies the effect.
  • Some venues have rules on fixings, so check early.

Where draping makes the biggest difference

You don’t have to drape a whole room to change how it feels. Focus on where people look:

  • Behind the top table, for a soft, elegant backdrop to every speech.
  • Around a stage, front and back, for a clean, professional finish.
  • Across plain or dated walls in function rooms and halls.
  • As a backdrop for a photo spot or cake table.

Light it up

Draping and lighting are made for each other. Uplighting in your colour scheme turns white drapes into a wash of colour, and it changes the whole mood of the room once the sun goes down.

Check with your venue

Most venues are happy with draping, but some have rules about fixings. Tell us where you’re celebrating and we’ll check with them before the day, and agree setup times so it’s all in place before your guests arrive.

What goes well with draping

A draped stage is perfect for awards nights and galas. For weddings, pair draping with a flower wall and light-up letters for a top table that looks straight out of a magazine.
